About our company
The Shaw family has been in business since the 1940's, our original company is ShawProduction Foundry. As a job shop we have over 50 years of experience working with engineers and architects designing and producing the quality castings they need. We designed and produced fittings for kennel companies for over 30 years. In that time we have seen the quality standards of most kennels drop. Heavy pipe was replaced with tubing, cast clamps were made with thinner ribs or replaced with stampings. We listened to the architects, contractors and kennel owners when they said they still wanted to buy the high quality kennels that used to be available, but they couldn't find them anywhere. We felt that there must be a lot of other people out there who felt the same way and would want to buy a quality kennel and so was born L. Shaw Kennel. We continue to strive to meet the needs of professionals. We consult Architects and Engineers when developing new products, and for ideas on improving our existing products. We listen to the needs of the professionals as well as the individuals using our products and services. We look forward to doing business with you.

Our Fittings

• We started by designing our fittings with higher ribs for added strength.
• We designed them to fit full weight schedule 40 galvanized water pipe in accordance with ASTM A-120-79.
• We designed them to maintain small spacing between adjoining frames
• By designing and manufacturing our own castings we can help lower the cost by keeping in mind the ease of cast ability when designing a part
• Then we poured them out of a marine alloy in accordance with ASTM S-5B. after 30 years of research we believe to be the best all around alloy for holding up against corrosion where dog urine is involved.

Our Frames

• We use only full weight schedule 40 hot dipped galvanized steel pipe 1.050 O.D. with a .113 wall thickness and 1.13 LB per foot weight in accordance with ASTM A-120-79
• We never weld anything on our pipe. Welding burns off the galvanize and causes rusting. Even if you hot dip a welded frame again after it is welded, the inside of the weld is not coated and will rust out from condensation inside the pipe. The biggest complaint we have heard on kennels over 20 years old is that the bottom corners are rusting out.
• We designed a corner clamp that allows the frame to be built without welds
• We drill through both the pipe and clamp and bolt it securely
• Since there are no welds the galvanize is not burnt off.
• The ends of the pipe can be coated both inside and out at anytime in the future
• A single pipe can be removed and replaced in case of future damage

Our Mesh

• We use Hot Dipped Galvanized 11 gauge 2" chainlink mesh as our standard mesh
• We hand lace our mesh to the frame with 13 gauge wire so that every point of the perimeter is secured.
• We tie off our lacing wire to leave a space for our frame clamps to clamp against the pipe

Our Latch
Another problem area for kennels is the latch. They seem to be either secure, or easy to open and close, not both at the same time. They also break often. We set out to design a secure latch that is hard to break and easy to close. We came up with our exclusive easy close latch. It did not take much investigation to learn that most latches get broken by people slamming them, not by animals. With this in mind we designed a slam proof latch. It is really quite simple if you slam it, it will go all the way through. There is never a solid pressure point to allow enough force to break anything. This design also allows the gate to be opened by swinging in or out, another feature that many professional dog handlers ask for.

Maintenance

• All of our parts can be replaced in the field with a minimal amount of tools.
• Even if a kennel is damaged by bending or breaking of the pipes the effected pipes can be removed and replaced
• We also sell our clamps to owners of other brands of kennels for repairing them

Our Goal
Our desire is to build the best kennel at an economical price. We have found that one of the biggest costs in kennels is shipping. We realized that because of our clamp design a lot of people would have the skills and tools needed to build one of our kennels themselves. And that the biggest part of the shipping cost is the weight of the pipe and mesh. These things can be purchased at a local hardware store or plumbing supplier and local fence manufacturer. This saves a great deal on shipping, it also saves on labor. If you are willing to do the work you can build a high quality kennel for a price comparable to that of a cheap kennel pre fabricated out of tubing
